For those travelling by train, Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street stations are both conveniently located near the clinic. Once you arrive, you’ll have a variety of shops, cafés and restaurants close at hand, whether you’re planning something before your appointment or staying in the city afterwards.
If you’re driving to your appointment, we provide a £4 contribution towards two hours of parking at St Enoch Square. Please leave enough time to walk from the car park to Ingram Street.

Baby Scanning Bearsden and Glasgow City utilises the advanced GE Voluson E8 Expert ultrasound machine. Baby Scanning is the only clinic in Scotland to use this advanced machine.
When selecting a baby scanning clinic, it is recommended to inquire about the equipment used.
As our patient volumes are high and we operate 5 days a week in Bearsden and 7 days a week in Glasgow City, we have always required the top end equipment for our branches. We require an ultrasound system that enables us to deliver truly exceptional images, confidently and efficiently, every time. Scan Details
Time Frame: This scan is most effective between 6 to 10 weeks of pregnancy, earlier than abdominal scans.
Appointment length: Approximately 15 minutes, with 2 to 4 minutes dedicated to scanning time.
Purpose of Scan: To confirm a viable intrauterine pregnancy, detecting the presence of a foetal heartbeat, and determining the number of embryos (e.g., single, twins, or more).
You will receive: High-resolution 2D images, sent directly via email
*No Gender determination at this stage.
Time Frame: This can be carried out from 8 to 14 weeks
Appointment length: 15 minutes, of which you can expect 4 to 10 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of Scan: to confirm an on-going intra-uterine pregnancy and to check that there is a foetal heart beat. The presence of 1, 2 or more babies can be established.
You will receive: Multiple 2D scan images sent by email.
*No Gender determination at this stage.
Time frame: Available from 14 to 24 weeks Gestation.
Appointment length: 15 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 10 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of the Scan: The purpose of the scan is to measure the foetus, help determine the gestational age and the expected due date. The primary goal is to ensure the pregnancy is on track and to estimate when you’re likely to give birth.
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming that the growth of your baby is in line with your gestation.
You will receive: Multiple 2D scan images sent by email.
*Please ensure you are at least 8 weeks gestation.
Time frame: Available from 16 to 24 weeks Gestation.
Appointment length: 15 minutes, of which you can expect 5 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of the Scan: Gender Confirmation, Check the wellbeing of the foetus, heartbeat and amniotic fluid.
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming that the growth of your baby is in line with your gestation.
You will receive: 5 to 10 still 2D scan images, sent by email.
*Please ensure you are at least 16 weeks gestation.
Time frame: Available from 18 to 23 weeks Gestation.
Appointment length: 20 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 10 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of the Scan: Gender determination and HD Live imaging.
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming that the growth of your baby is in line with your gestation.
You will Receive: A selection of 4D and HD Live images and short video clips by email. Two A4 size photographs to take away on the day.
*If HD Live imaging is not successful you will be charged for the 2D gender scan
Time frame: Available from 24 to 32 weeks gestation.
Appointment length: 15 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 8 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of the Scan: To check the well-being of the foetus, heartbeat, amniotic fluid. Foetal growth and estimated weight.
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming that the growth of your baby is in line with your gestation.
You will Receive: 5 to 10 still 2D scan images and two A4 size photographs to take away on the day.
*Gender Confirmation if required.
Time frame: 26 to 32 weeks gestation
Appointment length: 20 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 10 minutes of scanning time

You will Receive: 5 to 10 still 3D scan images and two A4 size 3D scan photographs to take away on the day.

The ideal time frame to book this scan is when mothers are 26 to 28 weeks gestation so you can be called back for a free rescan if the images obtained are unsatisfactory.
Appointment length: 20 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 8 minutes of scanning time

It’s your time, it’s your sonographer, it’s your say
This is our interactive scanning package allowing parents to choose the parts of the baby they want to view. It involves scanning of the areas the parents have specified by the sonographer to capture the engrossing images of the baby. It also includes the essentials of our 4D scan/ HD Live scan Package. We will aim to provide with 2 to 5 min of video clips.
Time frame: 26 to 32 weeks gestation
The ideal time frame to book this scan is when mothers are 26 to 28 weeks gestation so you can be called back for a free rescan if the images obtained are unsatisfactory.
Appointment length: 30 minutes, of which you can expect 8 to 15 minutes of tailored scanning time allowing you to see the most captivating features of the new addition to your family
Purpose of Scan: To allow family and friends to bond with the baby before it is born. This involves a tailored experience from the sonographer, allowing you to see and capture images of your preference. This package is designed to give you a long duration of scanning time to let you view your baby at your leisure
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming that the growth of your baby is in line with your gestation.
You will Receive: A selection of 4D and HD Live images and short video clips by email. Four 3D scan A4 size photographs to take away on the day.

Time frame: Available from 34 weeks to 40 weeks
Appointment length: 15 minutes, of which you can expect 5 to 8 minutes of scanning time.
Purpose of Scan: To check the presentation of the baby at the time of scanning, i.e. head down, breech or lying sideways. At 36 to 37 weeks most babies will turn into head down position.
Verbal Pregnancy Progress Report: Confirming the presentation of the baby.
You will Receive: 5 to 10 still 2D scan images and two A4 size photographs to take away on the day.
Time frame: From 7 weeks of pregnancy.
Appointment length: 20 minutes
Purpose of Test: To determine your baby’s gender using a simple maternal blood sample with an accuracy of 99.9 percent.
Results delivered within 3 to 5 working days after the sample reaches the laboratory.

Time frame: 10+ weeks gestation.
The ideal time frame is 10 to 13 weeks gestation.
Appointment length: 20 minutes
Purpose of Test: To screen for Trisomy 21 (Down’s syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edward’s syndrome), Trisomy 13 (Patau’s syndrome) and abnormalities within the sex chromosomes (X or Y chromosomes)
You will receive: Results will be available after 7 to 10 days.

Early Pregnancy Scans
In the early weeks, scanning can help establish where the pregnancy is located, look for a heartbeat and identify the number of embryos. What can be seen depends on how far the pregnancy has progressed, and abdominal and transvaginal scans have different appointment windows.

Reassurance Scans
An additional scan can give you the opportunity to see your baby between scheduled maternity appointments. Reassurance appointments include a heartbeat check and measurements suited to your stage of pregnancy.

Gender Scans
If you would like to find out your baby’s sex, gender scans are available from 16 weeks. Your appointment includes the checks outlined in the package and a selection of 2D images by email. Your sonographer needs a suitable view, so identification cannot be guaranteed.

This option combines a gender appointment with HD Live imaging, offering the chance to see more of your baby’s appearance. Your stage of pregnancy, your baby’s position and the scanning conditions will influence the images obtained.

Growth Scans
Later in pregnancy, ultrasound measurements can be used to estimate your baby’s size and weight. Our growth appointments also include checks of the heartbeat and amniotic fluid, recording findings at the time of your visit.

3D, 4D and HD Live Packages
These packages offer an opportunity to see your baby’s features and capture keepsakes before birth. With 3D imaging, you receive still pictures, while 4D shows movement in real time. The views available will depend on your baby’s position and the scanning conditions.

Presentation Scans
Towards the end of pregnancy, a presentation scan checks whether your baby is head down, breech or lying sideways. It establishes their position at that appointment. Your maternity team can explain how the findings relate to your ongoing care.

Pregnancy Blood Tests at Our City Centre Clinic
For families in Anniesland considering pregnancy blood tests, our Glasgow City Centre clinic offers separate appointments for early gender testing and NIPT.
The Early Gender Blood Test is available from seven weeks and uses a maternal blood sample to identify your baby’s sex.
NIPT Screening is available from ten weeks to assess the chance of selected chromosomal conditions. This is a screening test, rather than a diagnosis.
