Pregnancy Scans and Experiences
Our appointments cover different stages of pregnancy, from early ultrasound checks to capturing your baby’s features and movements. Each service guide provides its booking window and full package details.
Early Pregnancy Scans
During the first weeks of pregnancy, an ultrasound can help identify the pregnancy’s location, establish the number of embryos and look for a heartbeat. What is visible depends on how far the pregnancy has progressed. Abdominal and transvaginal appointments have different booking windows.
Visit our Early Pregnancy Scan page for abdominal scan timings and preparation.
Reassurance Scans
If you would like an additional scan between routine maternity appointments, this service offers an opportunity to see your baby and check their heartbeat and measurements appropriate to your pregnancy stage.
Learn what is included in a Reassurance Scan.
Gender Scans
From 16 weeks, a gender appointment offers the chance to find out your baby’s sex. The package includes the listed wellbeing checks and a selection of 2D images by email. Identification depends on your baby’s position and obtaining a suitable view, so it cannot be guaranteed.
Explore our Gender Scan appointments.
HD Live Gender Scans
For parents interested in additional imaging during their gender appointment, HD Live offers a more detailed view of their baby’s appearance. The images achievable vary according to gestation, position and scanning conditions.
Read the HD Live Gender Scan guide for availability and package inclusions.
Growth Scans
A growth scan uses ultrasound measurements to estimate your baby’s size and weight later in pregnancy. Heartbeat and amniotic fluid checks are also included, providing information about your baby at the time of the appointment.
Find further details on our Growth Scan page.
3D, 4D and HD Live Experiences
From still pictures of your baby’s features to watching their movements, these appointments offer different ways to capture moments before birth. A 3D scan produces still images, while 4D shows movement in real time. Your baby’s position and the available views will affect the images obtained.
Compare the 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package to see which photographs and clips each includes.
Presentation Scans
Towards the end of pregnancy, a presentation appointment checks how your baby is lying, including whether they are head down, breech or sideways. It records their position at that time, and your maternity team can advise on any implications for your care.
See our Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
Pregnancy Blood Tests in Glasgow City Centre
Families from Kirkintilloch and Lenzie can also attend our Glasgow City Centre clinic for selected pregnancy blood tests. These require a separate booking at that location.
The Early Gender Blood Test is available from seven weeks and uses a maternal blood sample to identify your baby’s sex.
NIPT Screening is available from ten weeks and assesses the chance of selected chromosomal conditions. It is a screening test, rather than a diagnosis.
Check the individual service pages for eligibility, results information and booking details.
Private scans complement your routine maternity care. Continue attending your NHS appointments and contact your maternity team if you experience symptoms or have concerns.
Went for a few scans here, the service is always very pleasant and they always try to ensure you are seen on time. My little one was born last week and everything from the gender to the average ultrasound age was bang on/HM
We had a great experience, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed, felt relaxed and had great communication with both ladies. They respected our wishes to not see our gender and we cannot wait to come back for a more detailed scan. Highly recommend.KM
Highly recommend!! Had such a lovely experience getting my gender reveal scan at baby scanning in Newton Mearns. Lots of time was taken to go through everything as they were doing my scan, it was a nice relaxed environment and I felt totally at ease.RG
