Pregnancy Scan Options for Milngavie Families
Appointments at our nearby Bearsden clinic cover different stages of pregnancy. The summaries below can help you explore your options, with full details available in each scan guide.
Early Pregnancy Scans
In the first weeks of pregnancy, an ultrasound can help establish where the pregnancy is located, identify the number of embryos and look for a heartbeat. What can be seen depends on how far along the pregnancy is. Abdominal and transvaginal appointments are available at different stages.
Explore our Early Pregnancy Scan guide for timings and preparation.
Reassurance Scans
For parents who would like an additional appointment between routine maternity scans, a reassurance scan offers a chance to see their baby and check aspects of pregnancy progress, including heartbeat and measurements appropriate to the stage of pregnancy.
Find out what is included in a Reassurance Scan.
Gender Scans
From 16 weeks, a gender scan offers the opportunity to find out your baby’s sex, alongside the checks included in your appointment. You will also receive a selection of 2D images by email. Identifying your baby’s sex depends on obtaining a suitable view and cannot be guaranteed.
See our Gender Scan guide for more information.
HD Live Gender Scans
If you would like HD Live images as part of your gender appointment, this option combines an attempt to identify your baby’s sex with a more detailed view of their appearance. The images achievable will depend on your stage of pregnancy and your baby’s position.
Explore the HD Live Gender Scan package.
Growth Scans
Later in pregnancy, a growth scan takes measurements to estimate your baby’s size and weight. The appointment also includes checks of the heartbeat and amniotic fluid, providing information about your baby at the time of the scan.
Read more about our Growth Scan appointments.
3D, 4D and HD Live Experiences
These appointments focus on capturing images of your baby before birth. A 3D scan produces still images, while 4D allows you to watch movement in real time. Your baby’s position and the views available on the day will affect the pictures and clips we can capture.
Compare the 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package to choose your preferred experience.
Presentation Scans
Towards the end of pregnancy, a presentation scan checks how your baby is positioned at that appointment, such as head down, bottom down or lying across the womb. Your maternity team can advise you on what the findings mean for your ongoing care.
View the Presentation Scan details.
Blood Tests at Our Glasgow City Centre Clinic
Families travelling from Milngavie can also book selected pregnancy blood tests at our Glasgow City Centre clinic. These appointments take place separately from the scan services described above at Bearsden.
The Early Gender Blood Test is available from seven weeks. NIPT Screening, available from ten weeks, assesses the chance of selected chromosomal conditions. NIPT is a screening test, rather than a diagnosis.
Visit the individual test pages for eligibility, what is included and booking information.
Private scans complement your routine maternity care. Continue attending your NHS appointments and contact your maternity team if you have symptoms or concerns.
Went for a few scans here, the service is always very pleasant and they always try to ensure you are seen on time. My little one was born last week and everything from the gender to the average ultrasound age was bang on/HM
We had a great experience, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed, felt relaxed and had great communication with both ladies. They respected our wishes to not see our gender and we cannot wait to come back for a more detailed scan. Highly recommend.KM
Highly recommend!! Had such a lovely experience getting my gender reveal scan at baby scanning in Newton Mearns. Lots of time was taken to go through everything as they were doing my scan, it was a nice relaxed environment and I felt totally at ease.RG
