Choosing Your Pregnancy Scan

Whether you’re looking for reassurance in early pregnancy, excited to find out your baby’s sex, or eager to see their features and movements later in pregnancy, we offer a range of private scans to suit different stages of your journey. Each scan has its own recommended stage, features and inclusions, with detailed guides available to help you understand your options and choose the appointment that’s right for you.

Early Pregnancy Appointments

An early pregnancy scan can help assess the location of the pregnancy, check for a heartbeat and identify whether there is more than one embryo. What can be seen will depend on how far along the pregnancy is, and the appointment may be carried out using either an abdominal or transvaginal scan.

Read our Early Pregnancy Scan guide to check the available options and timings.

An Additional Check Between Routine Appointments

A reassurance appointment gives you the opportunity to see your baby and check their heartbeat and measurements appropriate to your stage of pregnancy. It is designed to complement, rather than replace, your routine maternity care.

See our Reassurance Scan page for appointment details.

Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex

Gender scan appointments are available from 16 weeks and include a wellbeing check, along with 2D images sent to you by email. During your appointment, your sonographer will attempt to identify your baby’s sex, although this depends on the views obtained during the scan and cannot be guaranteed.

Explore our Gender Scan appointments.

Adding HD Live Imaging to Your Gender Appointment

An HD Live gender appointment combines an attempt to identify your baby’s sex with the opportunity to capture detailed images of their appearance. The images achieved will depend on factors such as your baby’s position and your stage of pregnancy.

View the HD Live Gender Scan package for timings and inclusions.

Measurements Later in Pregnancy

A growth appointment uses ultrasound measurements to estimate your baby’s size and weight, alongside checks of their heartbeat and amniotic fluid. These measurements provide an indication of your baby’s growth and wellbeing at the time of your appointment.

Find out more about our Growth Scan service.

Seeing Your Baby in 3D and 4D

For families looking to capture special images and keepsakes, our 3D, 4D and HD Live scans offer different ways to see your baby before birth. Depending on the scan you choose, you may receive still images, video clips or a combination of both. The views and images captured will depend on factors including your baby’s position.

Compare our 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package.

Checking Your Baby’s Position

A presentation appointment checks your baby’s position towards the end of pregnancy, including whether they are head down, bottom down or lying sideways. The scan provides a record of their position at the time of your appointment, which can be discussed with your maternity team if needed.

Read the Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
