Choosing Your Pregnancy Scan

Whether you’re seeking reassurance during early pregnancy, looking forward to finding out your baby’s sex, or excited to see their features and movements later on, our range of private scans offers options for different stages of pregnancy. Each scan is designed with a specific stage, features and inclusions in mind, with detailed guides to help you explore the options and find the appointment that’s right for you.

Early Pregnancy Appointments

An early pregnancy scan provides an opportunity to assess the location of the pregnancy, check for a heartbeat and see whether more than one embryo is present. The findings will vary depending on the stage of pregnancy, and the scan may be performed either abdominally or transvaginally, depending on what is appropriate for the appointment.

Read our Early Pregnancy Scan guide to check the available options and timings.

An Additional Check Between Routine Appointments

A reassurance appointment allows you to see your baby while checking their heartbeat and measurements in line with your stage of pregnancy. It offers an opportunity for reassurance alongside your routine maternity care and is not intended to replace your NHS appointments.

See our Reassurance Scan page for appointment details.

Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex

Available from 16 weeks, our gender scan includes a wellbeing check and 2D images delivered to you by email. Your sonographer will attempt to identify your baby’s sex during the appointment, although this is dependent on the views available at the time due to the position of baby and cannot be guaranteed.

Explore our Gender Scan appointments.

Adding HD Live Imaging to Your Gender Appointment

An HD Live gender appointment gives you the opportunity to find out your baby’s sex while capturing enhanced images of their features. The quality and detail of the images will vary depending on factors such as your baby’s position and your stage of pregnancy.

View the HD Live Gender Scan package for timings and inclusions.

Measurements Later in Pregnancy

A growth appointment uses ultrasound measurements to assess your baby’s size and estimate their weight, alongside checks of their heartbeat and amniotic fluid. The results provide a snapshot of your baby’s growth and the measurements recorded at the time of your appointment.

Find out more about our Growth Scan service.

Seeing Your Baby in 3D and 4D

For families wanting to capture memorable images of their baby before birth, our 3D, 4D and HD Live scans offer different ways to see their features and movements. Depending on the scan you choose, you may receive still images, video clips or a combination of both. The images and views achieved will vary depending on factors such as your baby’s position during the appointment.

Compare our 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package.

Checking Your Baby’s Position

A presentation appointment assesses your baby’s position towards the later stages of pregnancy, including whether they are head down, bottom down or lying sideways. The scan records their position at the time of the appointment, providing information that can be discussed with your maternity team where appropriate.

Read the Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
