Choosing Your Pregnancy Scan
Whether you’re looking for reassurance in early pregnancy, want to find out your baby’s sex or would like to see their developing features and movements in more detail, our range of private scans caters to different stages of pregnancy. Each appointment has a recommended timeframe and its own set of checks and features. Explore our individual scan guides to find out more about what’s included and when each scan may be suitable.
Early Pregnancy Appointments
An early pregnancy scan allows you to check the location of the pregnancy, look for a heartbeat and see whether there is more than one embryo. The images and information available will depend on how far along you are, and your appointment may involve an abdominal or transvaginal scan depending on your stage of pregnancy and what is needed.
Read our Early Pregnancy Scan guide to check the available options and timings.
An Additional Check Between Routine Appointments
A reassurance scan lets you see your baby and, depending on how far along you are, includes checks of their heartbeat and measurements. It can provide extra reassurance between your routine maternity appointments, while being intended as an additional service alongside, rather than a replacement for, your NHS care.
See our Reassurance Scan page for appointment details.
Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex
From 16 weeks, our gender scan includes a wellbeing check as your sonographer attempts to determine your baby’s sex. The scan includes 2D images, which will be emailed to you following your appointment. As your baby’s position can affect the views available, it may not always be possible to confirm their sex on the day.
Explore our Gender Scan appointments.
Adding HD Live Imaging to Your Gender Appointment
An HD Live gender scan gives you the opportunity to find out your baby’s sex while also capturing detailed images of their developing features. The clarity and level of detail visible during the scan can vary depending on your stage of pregnancy and your baby’s position on the day.
View the HD Live Gender Scan package for timings and inclusions.
Measurements Later in Pregnancy
A growth scan assesses your baby’s size using ultrasound measurements and provides an estimated weight, along with checks of their heartbeat and amniotic fluid. These measurements give an indication of your baby’s growth and wellbeing at the time of the appointment.

Seeing Your Baby in 3D and 4D
Our 3D, 4D and HD Live scans offer a closer look at your baby’s developing features and movements, with the chance to capture special images to treasure before birth. Depending on the scan you choose, your appointment may include still photographs, video clips or both. The clarity and detail visible can vary according to your baby’s position and the views available during the scan.
Compare our 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package.
Checking Your Baby’s Position
During the later stages of pregnancy, a presentation scan checks how your baby is positioned, including whether they are head down, bottom down or lying sideways. It provides a record of their position at the time of the scan, which can be shared with your maternity team if appropriate.
Read the Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
Went for a few scans here, the service is always very pleasant and they always try to ensure you are seen on time. My little one was born last week and everything from the gender to the average ultrasound age was bang on/HM
We had a great experience, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed, felt relaxed and had great communication with both ladies. They respected our wishes to not see our gender and we cannot wait to come back for a more detailed scan. Highly recommend.KM
Highly recommend!! Had such a lovely experience getting my gender reveal scan at baby scanning in Newton Mearns. Lots of time was taken to go through everything as they were doing my scan, it was a nice relaxed environment and I felt totally at ease.RG
