Choosing Your Pregnancy Scan

Whether you’re looking for reassurance in early pregnancy, hoping to find out your baby’s sex, or wanting to see their features and movements in more detail later in pregnancy, we offer a range of private scans to suit different stages of pregnancy. Each appointment has a recommended pregnancy window and specific inclusions, with further information available in our individual scan guides.

Early Pregnancy Appointments

An early pregnancy scan provides an opportunity to check the location of the pregnancy, look for a heartbeat and see whether there is more than one embryo. What can be seen will depend on how far along you are, and your appointment may involve an abdominal or transvaginal scan depending on your stage of pregnancy and what is required.

Read our Early Pregnancy Scan guide to check the available options and timings.

An Additional Check Between Routine Appointments

A reassurance appointment gives you the opportunity to see your baby and check their heartbeat and measurements, depending on your stage of pregnancy. It can provide additional reassurance alongside your routine maternity care but is not intended to replace your scheduled NHS appointments.

See our Reassurance Scan page for appointment details.

Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex

Gender scan appointments are available from 16 weeks and include a wellbeing check, along with 2D images sent to you by email after your appointment. During your scan, your sonographer will look to determine your baby’s sex. However, this can depend on your baby’s position and the views available during the appointment, so it cannot be guaranteed.

Explore our Gender Scan appointments.

Adding HD Live Imaging to Your Gender Appointment

An HD Live gender scan combines finding out your baby’s sex with the opportunity to capture detailed images of their developing features. The clarity and detail visible during your appointment can vary depending on how far along you are and your baby’s position on the day.

View the HD Live Gender Scan package for timings and inclusions.

Measurements Later in Pregnancy

A growth scan uses ultrasound measurements to assess your baby’s size and provide an estimated weight, alongside checks of their heartbeat and amniotic fluid. These measurements provide a snapshot of your baby’s growth and wellbeing at the time of your appointment.

Seeing Your Baby in 3D and 4D

Our 3D, 4D and HD Live scans offer the opportunity to see your baby’s features and movements in greater detail, while capturing special images to treasure before birth. Depending on the scan you choose, your appointment may include still images, video clips or a combination of both. The clarity and level of detail captured can vary depending on your baby’s position.

Compare our 3D Scan Picture Package, 4D / HD Live Scan Package and Interactive 4D / HD Live Scan Package.

Checking Your Baby’s Position

A presentation appointment checks your baby’s position during the later stages of pregnancy, including whether they are head down, bottom down or lying sideways. It provides a snapshot of your baby’s position at the time of the scan, which can be shared and discussed with your maternity team if needed.

Read the Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
