Choosing Your Pregnancy Scan
Our private pregnancy scans are available throughout different stages of pregnancy, from early reassurance and wellbeing checks to gender scans and detailed imaging later on. Each appointment is designed with a particular stage of pregnancy in mind, with individual scan guides providing further information about what’s included and what you can expect.
Early Pregnancy Appointments
An early pregnancy scan provides an opportunity to assess the pregnancy, including checking its location, looking for a heartbeat and identifying whether more than one embryo is present. What can be seen will depend on how far along the pregnancy is, and your sonographer may perform the scan abdominally or transvaginally depending on the stage and views required.
Read our Early Pregnancy Scan guide to check the available options and timings.
An Additional Check Between Routine Appointments
A reassurance scan gives you the opportunity to see your baby and, depending on how far along you are, includes checks of their heartbeat and measurements. The appointment is designed to provide additional reassurance alongside your routine maternity care.
See our Reassurance Scan page for appointment details.
Finding Out Your Baby’s Sex
From 16 weeks, a gender scan gives you the opportunity to find out your baby’s sex, alongside a wellbeing check during your appointment. Your sonographer will assess the views available and make an attempt to determine the sex, with 2D images provided by email afterwards. As your baby’s position can affect what is visible, confirmation cannot be guaranteed.

Adding HD Live Imaging to Your Gender Appointment
An HD Live gender scan gives you the opportunity to find out your baby’s sex while also capturing enhanced images of their developing features. The level of detail visible during the appointment can vary depending on your stage of pregnancy and your baby’s position at the time of the scan.
View the HD Live Gender Scan package for timings and inclusions.
Measurements Later in Pregnancy
A growth scan uses ultrasound measurements to assess your baby’s size and provide an estimated weight, together with checks of their heartbeat and amniotic fluid. The information gathered during the appointment provides a snapshot of your baby’s growth and wellbeing at that stage of pregnancy.

Seeing Your Baby in 3D and 4D
Our 3D, 4D and HD Live scans provide different ways to enjoy seeing your baby’s developing features and movements before birth. Depending on the appointment you choose, you may receive photographs, video footage or both to keep as a memento of your pregnancy. The views captured can vary depending on your baby’s position during the scan.

Checking Your Baby’s Position
A presentation scan provides an opportunity to check your baby’s position during the later stages of pregnancy, including whether they are head down, bottom down or lying sideways. The appointment records their position at the time of the scan, while your maternity team can advise on what this may mean for your ongoing care.
Read the Presentation Scan guide for booking information.
Went for a few scans here, the service is always very pleasant and they always try to ensure you are seen on time. My little one was born last week and everything from the gender to the average ultrasound age was bang on/HM
We had a great experience, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed, felt relaxed and had great communication with both ladies. They respected our wishes to not see our gender and we cannot wait to come back for a more detailed scan. Highly recommend.KM
Highly recommend!! Had such a lovely experience getting my gender reveal scan at baby scanning in Newton Mearns. Lots of time was taken to go through everything as they were doing my scan, it was a nice relaxed environment and I felt totally at ease.RG
